One of our customers has requested that we design a chair lift that will allow his elderly mother to get up to her second story bedroom. The customer is worried that she may fall when trying to climb the steps while he is not home. Here are the constraints of the design:
1. The chair lift will need to be installed next to the stairs. Therefore, it should follow the contour of the stairs. In other words, the chair lift must ascend at the angle of the stairs and not go up and down vertically.
2. The chair lift should be activated by a pair of touch LEDs at the top and bottom of the stairs. Each touch LED should glow RED, if the chair is at the other end. It should glow GREEN when the chair is located at that particular button.
3. The display screen (VEX LED Brain) should display the current position of the chair, It should display LOWER LEVEL (when it is stationed at the bottom of the stairs), UPPER LEVEL (when it is stationed at the top of the stairs), UP (when it is ascending the stairs), and DOWN (when it is descending the stairs).
4. The chair should remain level as it ascends and descends the stairs.
